More Information
After helping the Denison rushing attack pile up 418 yards off 56 carries and leading three runners to 100-yard rushing days, the Big Red offensive line was named to the D3football.com national Team of the Week for their play in DU's 51-41 victory over Kenyon College on Saturday.
This is the second time a Denison offensive line has been bestowed this honor. The team was recognized last season after leading the way to a 455-yard rushing performance that featured two, 200-yard rushing days by DU running backs.
This year the offensive line was made up of senior co-captain's Nick Paolini (Hilliard, Ohio/Bishop Ready) and Alex Weaver (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) who held down the left side of the line. Four-year starter Bobby George (Watsonville, Ohio/Watsonville) held down his usual duties at center while sophomore Bobby Fresch (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville Central) and freshman Mike Muldoon (Mason, Ohio/St. Xavier) got the start at right guard and right tackle, respectively.
Midway through the second quarter Muldoon went down with an injury forcing Fresch to right tackle. Senior Teddy Orringer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) entered the game for Muldoon and played the remainder of the game at right guard.
The team is averaging 202.2 yards rushing per game which is second in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Denison has two running backs ranked in the NCAC's top-10 in rushing, led by Jon Berg (Washington, Pa./Trinity) who is fifth with 556 yards. First-year Dan Crawford (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) is eighth in the league with 436 yards. Denison has outrushed their opponents by an average of 52 yards per game in 2007.
Denison will look to keep their winning streak alive on Saturday (Nov. 3) when they travel to Crawfordsville, Ind. for a 1 p.m. game versus 10th ranked Wabash College. The Big Red will close out their 2007 campaign at home versus Earlham College on Nov. 10.
