Men's Golf: Big Red finish sixth at Denison Fall Classic

The Denison men's golf team finished sixth at the Denison Fall Classic held at Granville Golf Course on Sunday. The event is the first of four in the 2008-09 North Coast Athletic Conference Golf Championship Series.

Denison was paced by seniors Tom Dunlap (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) and John Milano (Kenilworth, Ill./New Trier) who tied for 11th place. Dunlap (74-75) and Milano (76-73) both fired 149s for the tournament.

Dunlap and Milano were trailed by junior Chase Foy's (Westerville, Ohio/Upper Arlington) 150 (73-77) and a 154 (73-81) by sophomore Kyle Bates (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake). DU was limited to just those four golfers as senior Kenny Smaga (Land O' Lakes, Fla./Walsh Jesuit (Ohio) was forced to withdraw after suffering an injury.

Ohio Wesleyan claimed the team title with a team score of 579 (288-291). OWU's Jeff Nieman took home medalist honors with a 138, after shooting 1-under par on day one and a 3-under on the final day.

Denison hits the links again on Tuesday (Sept. 16) at the Ohio Wesleyan Fall Intercollegiate at Oakhaven Golf Course. The next event in the NCAC Championship Series will take place Sept. 27-28 at Oberlin College.
