Date: October 06, 2008
Location: ZANESVILLE, Ohio
The Denison men's golf team closed out their 2008 fall season with one of the best 36-hole performances in school history. All six members of the DU lineup finished in the top-10 in overall standings. That stellar play resulted in the first victory by a Denison team since April 3, 2004.
The Big Red fired a two-day total of 576 (16-over par) and was led by sophomore Kyle Bates (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) who carded a 74 in Sunday's opening round. He followed that up with a one-under par 69 on Monday to lead DU and place third out of the field of 45 golfers.
Following Bates was junior Rob Parks (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and senior Tom Dunlap (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool). Both ended with two-round totals of 145. Parks tied overall medalist Lucas Murray with the tournament-low round of 68 on Monday. Dunlap also posted a red number on Sunday, carding a one-under par 69.
Denison's scoring was rounded out by seniors Gian Milano (Kenilworth, Ill./New Trier) and Ken Smaga (Land O'Lakes, Fla./Walsh Jesuit). Both fired rounds of 72 and 76 to finish in a tie for 10th overall at 148.
