Men's Golf: DU in fourth after first day of Wabash Invitational

After the opening round of play from the 2009 Wabash College Invitational, Denison University sits in fourth place following a 23-over par score of 311. The event is the third of four in the 2008-09 North Coast Athletic Conference Golf Championship Series.
Leading the way for DU was sophomore Kyle Bates who fired a one-over, 73 which has him tied for fifth place in the field of 59 golfers. Bates birdied the par-5, 576 yard second hole and also scored birdies on No. 10 and No. 16 to finish at 73.
Seniors Kenny Smaga and Tom Dunlap followed with a 77 and 79, respectively. Chase Foy rounded out the scoring with an 82.
The low round of the day was shot by Ohio Wesleyan's Jessie Cherio and DePauw's Ronnie Harris. Both finished at one-under, 71. OWU currently holds a three stroke lead over second-place DePauw in the overall team standings.
The Big Red and the rest of the field will tee off on Sunday for the final round of the 36-hole Wabash Invitational at 12:40 p.m.
