Men's Golf: Denison in second after first day of NCAC Championship event

Midway through the North Coast Athletic Conference's final championship event, Denison University sits in a tie for second place at this event and in third place overall.
Saturday saw the field of 45 golfers play 27-holes at Granville Golf Course through a mixture of rain and sunshine. Ohio Wesleyan fired a 294 on the first 18 and are off to a great start on opening nine holes of round two (141). Denison and Wittenberg are tied for second place with Wittenberg at 466 (316, 150). Freshman Kyle Bates is Denison's leader after shooting a six-over, 77 and a one-under par, 34 on the front nine of round two. Tom Dunlap posted an 80 and a one-over, 36 in his front nine to pace the Big Red.
Denison also got rounds of 79 and 40 from Kenny Smaga. Ryan Brady shot an 80 and followed with a 40 and Frank Steinberg is at 81, 40 entering Sunday.
Through seven of the nine NCAC Championship rounds, Ohio Wesleyan is the leader with 2,076 total strokes. Allegheny is second at 2,106 and the Big Red are third at 2,172. Denison holds a 15 shot lead on Wooster and a 17 shot lead on Wittenberg heading into tomorrow.
