The Denison men's indoor track and field squad turned in a fourth place showing at Saturday's 2009 Greater Columbus Division III Championship from the Mitchell Center on Denison's campus.  DU finished with 56 points to trail only Otterbein (74.5), Capital (85.5) and Ohio Wesleyan (189).

The Big Red's top performances on the day came in the men's 55 meter dash and the 800 meter run.  In the 55 dash senior Steve Flatley (Alison Park, Pa./Hampton) blazed his way to a 6.67 second time in the preliminaries which was the fourth-fastest time in the event in school history.  He came back just one one-hundredth of a second slower in the finals and placed second overall to Jordan Exeter who won with a time of 6.65 seconds.

In the 800 meters DU landed three runners in the top-six and were led by senior Lex Hultquist (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School) who won his section with a time of 1:57.25.  He would finish in second-place in the final standings behind Capital's Joe Miceli who clocked a time of 1:56.80.  Placing third was senior Ben Pendery (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) and checking in with a sixth-place time of 1:58.53 was first-year Chris Black (Chatham, N.J./Chatham).

Denison got a victory from junior Adam Tewahade (Aurora, Colo./Regis Jesuit) in the mile thanks to his time of 4:29.62.  Brett Ayers (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) also picked up a win in the unscored 500 meter run with his time of 1:12.89.

In the men's high jump senior Robbie Christian (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) finished in a tie for third place after clearing 6'0" on his second attempt.  Sophomore Steve Gallego (Lyndhurst, N.J./New Canaan) uncorked a throw of 12.51 meters to place third in the men's shot put.

Denison's top-finishers were rounded out by freshman Alex Chappars (Xenia, Ohio/Bellbrook) and sophomore Daniel Doggett (Byfield, Mass./The Governors Academy).  Chappars placed third in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:19.16 and Doggett came in fifth in 9:39.61.

DU will return with back-to-back meets next weekend.  On Friday night the men will compete at the Capital Invitational before traveling to Otterbein on Saturday (Feb. 14) for the 2009 Division III All-Ohio Championship.
