Men's Indoor Track & Field: Results from Denison Lid-Lifter

Michael Barnes won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23:23.

Seniors Michael Barnes (Gates Mills, Ohio/Mayfield) and Ben Pendery (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) each notched a first-place finish at the Denison Lid-Lifter which marked Big Red's indoor track & field season opener.

After winning the conference title last season, Barnes captured first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.23. The reigning North Coast Athletic Conference indoor sprinter/hurdler of the year also took third in the 55-meter dash with a mark of 6.79. Fellow senior Steve Flatley (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) finished just ahead of Barnes in the event with an identical time of 6.79.

In the 800-meter event, a trio of DU runners dominated the top three positions. Pendery took the gold in the event with a time of 2:00.01 while first-year Chris Black (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) finished just seven hundredths of a second behind him at 2:00.08. Rounding out the top three was senior Ben Holder (Dover, Ohio/Dover) who clocked in at 2:00.27.

Senior Lex Hultquist (Bethesda, Md./Webb School of Knoxville) was runner-up in the  one mile run with a time of 4:23.68 while classmate Robbie Christian (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) finished tied for second in the high jump after clearing 5-09.75. In the 4x400-meter relay, the foursome of Big Red runners finished second with a time of 3:29.68.

Denison returns to action next Saturday (Jan. 31) when they host the NCAC Relays at Mitchell Recreation & Athletic Center. Start time for the meet is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
