On Friday night the Gators jumped out to a 41-point after going 3-for-3 to open the championship. Joe McMahon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) improved upon last year's runner-up finish with a victory and NCAA provisional leap in the triple jump. The first championship of day-two went to Denison junior Andrew Cook (Thetford Center, Vt./Thetford Academy) who successfully defended his conference championship in the high jump. Cook matched his winning height of a year ago by clearing 6’3” to take home the individual title. He bested Ohio Wesleyan’s David Burke (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) who successfully cleared 6’2”.

In the pole vault, last year’s second-place finisher, Michael Tornifolio (Stow, Ohio/Stow) of Ohio Wesleyan, won the event by clearing 14’4”. Allegheny’s Peter Sotherland (Kalamazoo, Mich./Central) placed second with a height of 14’0”.

The Gators took first, second and fourth in the shot put and were paced by junior Frank Tupta (University Heights, Ohio/Hawken) who won the event with a throw of 51’3.75”. In the first running event of the championship the Gators again controlled three out of the top-four spots and were led by Chris Corkins’ (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) time of 15:10.24. Ben Mourer (Chicora, Pa./Karns City) followed in 15:12.41 and Earlham’s Walker Yane (Oldensburg, Ind./St. Xavier) took the bronze in 15:14.16.

Wabash College landed their first individual champion in the men’s long jump after Emmanuel Aouad (Terre Haute, Ind./North) out-dueled Allegheny’s McMahon by jumping 21’11.5”. McMahon placed second with a jump of 21’8” and Kenyon’s Dondrea Brown (Columbus, Ohio/McKinley) placed third overall to earn six points for the Lords.

Aouad returned in the 55 meter hurdles to take home his second championship medal of the day. He defeated OWU’s Andrew Bloom (Powell, Ohio/Worthington-Kilbourne) by one one-hundredth of a second, crossing in 7.93 seconds.

Little Giant junior, Bart Banach (Munster, Ind./Munster) kept the winning ways going for Wabash as he followed Aouad with a victory in the men’s 400 meter dash. Banach’s winning time of 50.49 seconds landed him in front of Denison’s Michael Barnes (Gates Mills, Ohio/Mayfield) who crossed in 50.84.
