Men's Track & Field Places Fourth at NCAC Relays

The Denison men's indoor track and field team took home three first-place finishes at the 2007 North Coast Athletic Conference Relays at the Mitchell Center to place fourth out of nine teams with 59 points. Wabash College was the winner on the men's side with 78 points.
The Big Red landed first place finishes in the Distance Medley Relay, the 4x800 relay and the high jump relay.
In the DMR, the foursome of Lex Hultquist (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School), Michael Barnes (Gates Mills, Ohio/Mayfield), James Nelson (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) and Joel Bendtsen (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) combined for a time of 10:25.77, nearly eight seconds in front of second-place Wabash. Hultquist, Bendtsen, Nelson and sophomore Ben Holder (Dover, Ohio/Dover) represented the Big Red in the 4x800 and won the event by nine seconds, this time topping Ohio Wesleyan. Their winning time was 8:09.82.
In the high jump relay, defending NCAC indoor champion Andrew Cook (Thetford Center, Vt./Thetford Academy) placed second overall, clearing 6'0". Eric Gastevich (Chicago, Ill./Lincoln Park) tied for third place with a jump of 5'10".
In the 5,000 meter relay Clark Paciorek (Novi, Mich./Northville) and Jacob Rodriguez-Noble (Maumee, Ohio/St. John Jesuit) came in 6th and seventh, respectively to combine for third place in the event. Paciorek ran a time of 15:51.62 and Rodriguez-Noble followed in 15:55.65.
The 4x400 relay team of Barnes, Matt Petkett (Newburgh, Ind./Indiana Academy), Ben Pendery (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) and Erik Walker (The Woodlands, Texas/The Woodlands) landed in second place with a time of 3:31.52. The team from Wabash won the event with a time of 3:28.62. In the 800 sprint medley, Peter Jarowey (Newton, Mass./Newton South), Brandon McAdams (Columbus, Ohio/Pendelton School), Fran Kelley (Madison, Wis./Edgewood) and Adam Tewahade (Aurora, Colo./Regis Jesuit) combined for a time of 3:52.53 to finish fourth overall. Ohio Wesleyan took the top spot with a time of 3:39.83.
In the pole vault relay Bill Horn (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli) picked up four points for the Big Red with his vault of 13'0". Rounding out the scoring for Denison was James Cosby (Centerville, Ohio/Miami Valley) who placed sixth in the triple jump and Chris Barber (Owensboro, Ky./Bath County) and Steven Webber (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) who combined for a fourth place finish in the men's shot put relay. Barber's throw of 42'6.5" was the eighth best throw of the day.
