Men's Indoor Track & Field: Allegheny leads after first day of NCAC Indoor Championships

Defending North Coast Athletic Conference men's indoor track and field champion, Allegheny College took an early lead after three events on the first night of the 2008 Indoor Championships from Denison University.
Allegheny's Frank Tupta repeated as champion in the men's shot put with a throw of 47'10.5". The distance was just under his winning throw of a year ago but it was enough to best second-place Chris Shaw of Earlham College who finished with a distance of 46'8.75".
Another former champion in Allegheny's Ryan Place got back onto the winner's podium with a victory in the 5,000 meters. Place, the 2006 5K champ, crossed the finish line in 14:45.60 which bested second-place Joel Bendtsen of Denison by just under 13 seconds.
In the men's triple jump Ohio Wesleyan's David Burke took home the gold with a jump of 44'10.75". Wooster's Tristan Jordan was second in 44'2" and Wittenberg's Erik Larkin placed third.
Saturday's finals will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the long jump and pole vault and will continue through the men's 4x400 relay finals at 5:35 p.m. Live results are available at NCAC Championship Home Page.
