Men's Indoor Track & Field: Barnes named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District squad

Junior sprinter Michael Barnes (Gates Mills, Ohio/Mayfield) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District first-team for men's track and field/cross country.  Barnes will now advance to the national ballot where he will have to opportunity to earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® honors.

Barnes was named the 2008 North Coast Athletic Conference men's sprinter/hurdler of the Year for indoor track after capturing conference titles in the 200 and 400 meter dashes.  Barnes ran a time of 22.65 to win the 200 and followed that with the conference's fastest winning time since 2003 (50.24) in the 400.  The victories were Barnes' second and third conference titles of his career.

Aside from his accolades on the track, Barnes is also the starting quarterback of the Denison football team and is a part of the Denison Student Athlete Advisory Council.  He holds a 3.84 grade point average as an economics major.

It recognizes 816 outstanding student-athletes annually in Division I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
