Men's Indoor Track & Field: DU Men Place Third at Relays

Senior Joel Bendtsen (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) took first place in the men's 5000 meters and the Big Red foursome of Lex Hultquist (Knoxville, Tenn./Webb School), Erik Walker (The Woodlands, Texas/Woodlands), Ben Holder (Dover, Ohio/Dover) and Ben Pendery (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) won the 4x800 relay to lead Denison to a third place finish at the 2008 North Coast Athletic Conference Relays.

Bendtsen got the day off to an excellent start for the Big Red as he logged a time of 15:19.82 to win the 5,000 meters by nearly six seconds.  Senior Craig Baker (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) placed ninth in the event with a time of 16:08.00 to lock up a second-place team finish in the event.

In the 4x800 relay Hultquist, Walker, Holder and Pendery blitzed the competition with their time of 8:05.84.  Ohio Wesleyan placed second with a time of 8:16.68.

The 4x200 relay team of Mike Barnes (Gates Mills, Ohio/Mayfield), Brandon McAdams (Columbus, Ohio/Pendleton), David Brade and Brett Ayers (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) finished with a time of 1:36.46 which was good enough for fourth place.

Barnes would return in the men's 4x400 relay along with three quarters of the winning 4x800 squad (Pendery, Hultquist and Holder) for a time of 3:37.27 and a fourth place finish.

The men's sprint medley relay was made up of Barnes, McAdams, Matt Perkett (Evansville, Ind./School of Science) and Todd Johnson (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles).  They combined for a time of 3:52.80 which landed them in fifth place overall. 

The men's distance medley relay team came in sixth after Adam Tewahade, Mike Shirar, Danny Rafferty and Phil Hiltner totaled a time of 11:09.47.

In the field events, Will Kirk and Bill Horn (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncali) placed fifth in the pole vault after both individuals cleared 12'5.5".

Chris Barber and Borden Marshall (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) came in fifth and ninth respectively in the shot put and James Cosby (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) placed seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 40'8.25".

Denison will compete next Saturday in the Greater Columbus Division III meet from Westerville, Ohio.
