Big Red Wins Sixth Straight at W&J

The Big Red shook off a rocky first quarter and outscored the Presidents 10-4 over the final three periods en route to a 15-8 victory over Washington & Jefferson on Friday night in Western Pennsylvania.
Denison got another big game from their dangerous attackmen Brady Burton and Topher Nazaruk. Burton scored five goals and had one assist, running his season total to 38 goals and 10 assists (48 points) which leads the North Coast Athletic Conference. Burton has been on especially red-hot streak of late, scoring 22 goals in his last four contests.
Nazaruk, the team's top distributor in 2007, posted his second four-assist game of the year as he finished the night with seven points (3 goals, 4 assists), running his season total to 21 goals, 22 assists. Combined, the duo has had a hand in 53 percent of the team's total goals scored this season.
The Presidents (2-10), gave Denison all they could handle early on, holding a 4-3 lead until Nazaruk and Chris Chandler put DU up 5-4 late in the first quarter. W&J held a distinct advantage in the face-off circle, taking 17-of-26 on the night, including an impressive 7-of-10 showing in the first quarter.
Denison was led in ground balls by Brian Cleary, Rick Mackessy and back-up goalie Dainel Wallace. All three finished with four ground balls apiece. Wallace relieved Denison starter Alex Baruch in the second quarter and went on to post seven saves in 39 minutes. Baruch stopped one would-be W&J goal in his 21 minutes in the cage.
Denison (9-2) will put their six game winning streak on the line on Wednesday when they travel to Oberlin College for a 4:30 p.m. game with the Yeomen. Their annual clash with Ohio Wesleyan will take place next Saturday, April 28, at 3 p.m. in Delaware, Ohio.
