Men's Lacrosse: Goal total continues to rise in win over Oberlin

Date: April 9, 2008
Location: GRANVILLE

The Big Red poured in 13 goal in the first half and added another 14 scores in the second half in a 27-3 rout of Oberlin College on Wednesday night at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.

Denison's 27-goal outburst has been par for the course over the last two weeks.  In Denison's last three games they have scored 70 goals and outscored their opponents 70-14.  This also marked the most goals scored by a Denison team since a 28-2 victory over Oberlin in 2001.

Tonight's scoring leader was freshman attackman Emmett Jones (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) who was efficient, scoring six goals off seven shot attempts.  Jones, who was making his first career start for the Big Red in the absence of injured attackman Topher Nazaruk (Stratford, Conn./Fairfield Prep), made the most of his new opportunity in the starting unit.

Senior middie Rick Mackessy (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) moved into the team-lead in total points with a two-goal, five-assist effort.  The five helpers was a new career-high for Mackessy.

Rookie attack Kyle Brown (Glenview, Ill./New Trier) posted four goals off four shots in the second half.  Sophomore Brady Burton (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) posted three goals and one assist and Dan Maude (Wayne, Pa./Haverford School) netted two goals and three assists.

Senior long stick Taylor Nissi (Groton, Mass./Holderness) posted six ground balls and sophomore middie Connor Detjen (Winnetka, Ill./Loyola Academy) scooped up eight ground balls and was 10-for16 in face-offs.

Senior goalie Alex Baruch (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) played the first 30 minutes and recorded six saves to earn his seventh win of the season.

Denison outshot Oberlin 65-19 and 3-for-3 in extra-man situations.
