Dan Maude totaled five points in Denison's 18-3 win over Fontbonne on Tuesday.
Date: April 22, 2008
Location: GRANVILLE
The Big Red held visiting Fontbonne scoreless for 53 minutes and built a 17-0 lead during that span en route to the 18-3 victory on Tuesday at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.
It took Denison just over 10 minutes to put their first goal on the board, but when they did score the floodgates opened. Junior middie Dan Maude (Wayne, Pa./Haverford School) scored three goals and added two assists to lead the Big Red scoring attack. Junior Nate Hall (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) led the team in assists with three and also scored a goal in the third period.
The 18-goal output runs Denison's season total to 204. Denison is just 34 goals short of setting a new single-season scoring record. That record of 237 goals was set in 1984 when the Big Red played 18 games. DU has just 15 games on their regular season schedule in 2008.
Senior goalie Alex Baruch (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) continued to improve his remarkable save percentage as he stopped eight would-be goals in 37 minutes of action. He entered the game ranked third in NCAA Division III in save percentage and after today's performance he raised that to .712.
In just 20 minutes of work filling in for Baruch, sophomore Dan Wallace (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) notched nine saves.
Conner Detjen (Winnetka, Ill./Loyola Academy), who is also among the national leaders in face-off percentage, was 8-for-12 and led the team with five ground balls.
The Big Red will host No. 19 Kenyon on Saturday (April 26) at 1 p.m. The Lords are coming off a 13-11 win over Ohio Wesleyan on Sunday and are tied with the Big Red at the top of the North Coast Athletic Conference standings (3-0).
