After a six-game road trip that spanned over a month the Denison Big Red made a triumphant return to Deeds Field-Piper Stadium and picked up right where they left off in early March, with a 24-8 rout of Washington & Jefferson on Saturday afternoon.

Denison, who was playing just their third game of the year on their home turf has put up some astronomical numbers this season.  In their three home victories Denison has outscored the opposition 70-14.  Today's 24-goal outburst was the most goals scored by a Big Red club since 2002's 25-0 win over Oberlin College at Barclay-Thomsen Field.

DU held an 11-1 lead at halftime thanks to three goals by Brady Burton (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) and four assists by Rick Mackessy (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson).  W&J's lone first half goal came in an extra-man situation with 9:19 to go in the second quarter.  They would not score again until the 6:25 mark of the third quarter.  At that time Denison held a commanding 18-1 lead.

Burton and Dan Maude (Wayne, Pa./Haverford School) led Denison with three goals.  Sixteen different Denison players scored at least one goal as the Big Red outshot the Presidents 62-18.  Sophomore Connor Detjen (Winnetika, Ill./Loyola Academy) paced Denison with five ground balls.  He also was 9-for-13 in the face-off circle.  Freshman Peter Bates (Cumberland, Maine/North Yarmouth) did an outstanding job with face-offs in the second-half, winning 13-of-16.

Senior goalie Alex Baruch (Richmond, Ind./St. Christopher's) played 30 minutes and earned the victory.  He stopped three shots and allowed one goal.  Sophomore's Dan Wallace (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and Patrick Cuff (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) played the second half and combined for three saves.

There were 16 penalties committed and Denison was 4-for-8 in extra-man situations while W&J went 2-for-3.

The 16th ranked Big Red will return to North Coast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday (April 9) when they host Oberlin College at 7:30 p.m.  All of Denison's remaining six regular season contests will be played at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.
