Nate Hall scored two goals and added one assist in Denison's 10-6 win over Wittenberg.
Date: March 26, 2008
Location: SPRINGFIELD, Ohio
Denison entered Wednesday night's contest with Wittenberg ranked 18th in the latest USILA poll but they also hadn't played a game in 10 days.
The layoff didn't appear to effect the Big Red as they scored six goals in the opening quarter and held off the Tigers in the second half for the 10-6 victory. All six goals in the first quarter were scored by different individuals as Brady Burton (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) got things going 2:30 into the game off an assist by Rick Mackessy (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson).
After two straight Wittenberg goals in the second quarter, Denison's Nate Hall (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) broke that run with a man-up goal with 12:15 left in the quarter. The goal was Hall's second of the game. He, along with Topher Nazaruk (Stratford, Conn./Fairfield Prep), PJ Hendrick (Newton, Mass./Rivers School) and Nick Jacobs (Wilmington, Del./Tower Hill) all scored two goals for DU.
Wittenberg was led by Ted Winders and his three goals and one assist night.
Senior goalie Alex Baruch (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) stopped nine shots in 60 minutes while Wittenberg's Mark DeOliveria posted six saves. Wittenberg outshot Denison 35-29 but DU controlled face-offs, winning 13-of-19.
Denison improves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in NCAC play while Wittenberg drops to 4-2 and 0-1 in conference play. DU will travel to Wooster on Saturday for a 1 p.m. face-off with the Fighting Scots.
