Men's Lacrosse: Denison earns road victory against Wooster

Denison got five goals from sophomore Brady Burton (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) and outscored the Fighting Scots 5-1 in the first half, resulting in a 10-5 victory for the 18th ranked Big Red on Sunday afternoon in Wooster, Ohio.

Burton entered the contest as the team leader in goals scored with 14, and when the day was through the second-year attack had upped his career goals total to 66 in just 22 games.  Two of Burton's goals came in man-up situations.  There were 11 penalties called in the game and DU was 3-for-5 in extra-man while Wooster went 1-for-6. 

Following Burton in the goal category was Rick Mackessy (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and Dan Maude (Wayne, Pa./Haverford School) who both added a pair of goals and two assists.  Defenseman Jimmy Minor (Washington, Pa./Trinity) also got in the scoring act in the third quarter.  It was the first goal of the preseason All-American's career.  Junior attack Nate Hall (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington) finished with two assists and Topher Nazaruk (Stratford, Conn./Fairfield Prep) chipped in his seventh helper of the season off Burton's second extra-man goal in the fourth quarter.

DU outshot Wooster 34-24 but were edged in the face-off circle 10-8. 

Senior goalie Alex Baruch (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) made nine saves in goal while Wooster's Matt Biester posted 10 saves on the day. 

Denison improves to 5-2 on the year and 2-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while Wooster ends up on the losing end for the first time this season.  The Scots are now 5-1 overall and 0-1 in NCAC play.  DU will travel to Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday (April 2) and will return home on Saturday (April 5) against Washington & Jefferson.
