Men's Outdoor Track & Field: Results from Division III All-Ohio Championships

Senior Skyler Mosenthal (Briarcliff, N.J./Briarcliff) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase to pace the Denison Big Red at the Division III All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday afternoon in Delaware, Ohio. The Big Red finished 15th in the overall team standings with 19 points.

Mosenthal crossed the line in 9:37.25 over a second faster then runner up David Stefanik of Ohio Wesleyan. Senior Grant Russo (Medina, OhioMedina) logged a fifth place finish in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 32:30.08 while teammate Alex Chappars (Xenia, Ohio/Bellbrook) was 10th in the event with a mark of 33:20.94. In the 1500-meter run, freshman Dee Salukombo (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) and junior Adam Tewahade (Aurora, Colo./Regis) finished in sixth and ninth with times of 4:04.95 and 4:06.26, respectively.

The senior trio of Lex Hultquist (Bethesda, Md./Webb School of Knoxville), Ben Pendery (Fort Thomas, Ky./Highlands) and Ben Holder (Dover, Ohio/Dover) posted a strong showing in the 800-meter run. Hultquist took seventh in the race with a mark of 1:57.18 while Pendery crossed in 1:58.04 to finish 10th and Holder right behind with a time of 1:58.45.

In the field events, sophomore Steven Gallego (Lyndhurst, N.J./New Canaan) logged a pair of top 15 finishes. Gallego finished 12th in the javelin with a distance of 145-11 and was 14th in the shot put with a toss of 41-02.25. Junior Bill Aukerman (Greensburg, Pa./Latrobe) and rookie Muhammad Maken (Sargodha, Pakistan/Aitchison) also recorded top 15 performances. Aukerman was 15th in the high jump with a clearing of 5-10.75 while Maken took 15th in the triple jump with a distance of 40-06.75.

The 4x100 relay of senior Michael Barnes (Gates Mills, Ohio/Mayfield), freshman Pat Effinger (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North), first-year Chris Roth (Milwaukee, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) and senior Steve Flatley (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) finished 11th with a time of 44.39. The 4x400 foursome of Effinger, Pendery, sophomore Brett Ayers (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) and Barnes crossed the line at 3:34.52 which was good enough for 13th place.

Ohio Wesleyan edge Ohio Northern by eight points (108-100) to claim the team title. Heidelberg finished third with 89 tallies while Baldwin-Wallce (74) and Mount Union (57) rounded out the top five.

Denison returns to competition on Saturday (April 18) when they travel to Kenyon College.
