Men's Outdoor Track & Field: Results from opening day at NCAC Championship

Steve Flatley placed second in the 100 meter dash preliminaries on Friday.
The Denison men's outdoor track and field team got underway at the 2009 North Coast Athletic Conference Championships from Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday afternoon.
DU got two points from senior Grant Russo (Medina, Ohio/Medina) in the men's 10,000 meters after his time of 32:32.77. Russo placed seventh overall in the men's distance race.
In the shot put, Steve Gallego (Lyndhurst, N.J./New Canaan) took ninth after his throw that covered 42'4.25".
Denison's other top performances came in preliminary sprints. Steve Flatley (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) qualified for the 100 meter dash finals with the second-fastest time of 11.16 seconds. Michael Barnes (Gates Mills, Ohio/Mayfield) checked in seventh in both the 400 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. Barnes logged a time of 50.49 in the 400 and 22.59 in the 200. Rounding out the top performances was senior Ben Holder (Dover, Ohio/Dover) who crossed the finish line in the 800 meters in 1:57.08.
Denison will continue to compete on Saturday from Ohio Wesleyan.
