Barnes headlines DU performance at Rose-Hulman
Sprinter Michael Barnes was named NCAC Sprinter of the Week after taking first in the 200 meters and second in the 100 meters at Rose-Hulman.

Big Red sprinter Michael Barnes (Gates Mills, OH/Mayfield) was named NCAC Sprinter of the Week after taking finishing second in the 100 meters and winning the 200 meters at the Rose-Hulman Invitational this past weekend. Barnes won the 200 with a time of 22.65 seconds and was beat out in a photo finish in the 100 with a time of 11.31 seconds.
Senior James Cosby (Centerville, OH/Centerville) kicked off the outdoor season in fine fashion as well. Cosby finished third in the long jump with a leap of 19' 2" and also took third in the triple jump at 39' 9.75".
Denison also got impressive showings in the javelin and shot put. Freshman Steven Gallego (Lyndhurst, N.J./New Canaan) took third in the javelin with a throw of 161' 8" and also took seventh in the shot put at 40'. Senior Chris Barber (Sharpsburg, Ky./Bath County) placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 40' 8.75" while classmate Brett O'Brien (Rumson, N.J./CBA) took sixth in the javelin throw.
Rounding out Denison's top performances were junior Phillip Hiltner (Sylvania, OH/St. John's) who took third in the 1500 meter run and freshman Brett Ayers (Mentor, OH/Mentor) placing fifth in the 400 meters.
The Big Red return to action this weekend when they travel to Wooster for a meet on Saturday.
