Sophomore Joel Bendsten (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) turned in a fourth place finish in the 5,000 meters and posted a third place showing in the 1,500 meters to lead Denison to a sixth place finish at the 2006 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. Denison amassed 59 team points. Allegheny was the overall champion with 237.5 points. They were followed by Wabash (135), Ohio Wesleyan (132), Wittenberg (91), and Wooster (62.5). In the 1,500 Bendsten crossed in 4:01.76 finishing less than two seconds behind event champ, Ryan Place of Allegheny. His time of 15:34.60 in the 5,000 resulted in a strong fourth place showing. Sophomore Andrew Cook (Thetford Center, Vt./Thetford Academy) came very close to defending his 2006 NCAC indoor championship in the high jump. Cook cleared 6'1 1/2" on Saturday finishing just behind Wabash's Mike Russell who cleared 6'2 3/4". Another runner-up was junior distance runner Clark Paciorek (Novi, Mich./Northville) who finished just over two seconds behind Ohio Wesleyan's Will Crabtree in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Paciorek's second place time was 9:36.92. Junior Jeff Mervosh's (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) best throw of 136'10" in the discus landed him in fifth place and senior thrower Steve Bedosky (Stamford, Conn./trinity Catholic) placed sixth in the hammer throw after his best effort of 133'9". In the relays, Denison's 4x400 team comprised of Erik Walker (The Woodlands, Texas/Woodlands), Michael Barnes (Gates Mills, Ohio/Mayfield), James Marks (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and Ben Pendery (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) placed third with a time of 3:25.50, trailing only Wabash (3:20.92) and Ohio Wesleyan (3:23.95). The 4x100 team of Peter Jarowey (Newton, Mass/South), Happy Grewal (Parma, Ohio/Parma), Barnes and Pendery finished fifth with a time of 44.36 seconds. In the 800, Pendery and Grewal placed fourth and sixth, respectively and Walker turned in a fifth place time of 51.30 in the 400 meter dash. Rounding out Denison's top finishers on Friday was Barnes and his sixth place finish in the 200 meter dash.
