Men's Track and Field Fares Well at Wooster Invitational

The Denison University men's track and field team competed at the non-scoring Wooster Invitational on Saturday and despite the harsh weather conditions a host of Big Red athletes posted strong finishes. Big Red distance runner, Brian Gilson won the 5,000 meters in 16:07.57 and teammate Adam Neizmik (Warren, Pa./Warren) placed fourth in the event with a time of 16:40.60. In the 400 meters, freshman Erik Walker (The Woodlands, Texas/Woodlands) took first place with a time of 51.76. Junior Eric Meibers (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was the runner-up in the 400 meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:00.55 and Craig Baker (Canton, Ohio/GlenOak) turned in a third place performance in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:25.49. In the 800 meters, James Nelson (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) was sixth in 2:08.69 while Jeff Mervosh (Rochester, Minn./Mayo) and James Hawkins placed second and third, respectively in the men's discus throw.
