Men's Track and Field Takes 8th at Wooster

The Denison men's track and field team traveled to Wooster this past weekend for the Wooster Invitational where they placed 8-out-of-11 teams. Junior Joel Bendsten (Chillicothe, Ohio / Chillicothe) and Freshman Bill Horn (Indianapolis, Ind. / Roncalli) led the team in scoring by taking first in their respective events. Bendsten placed first in the 5000 meter run beating out second place by 16 seconds with a time of 15:11.70. Horn placed first in the pole vault with a vault of 3.95 meters. Also placing well for the Big Red were sophomore Lex Hultquist (Knoxville, Tenn. / Webb School) who took second in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:06.42 and seniors Jeff Mervosh (Rochester, Minn. / Mayo) who took second in the Discus (with a throw of 134-04) and James Nelson who finished third, less than a second behind first place, in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.43. Other team members scoring points for Denison were sophomores Ben Holder (Dover, Ohio / Dover) and Michael Barnes (Gates Mills, Ohio / Mayfield) and junior Erik Walker (The Woodlands, Texas / Woodlands). Holder grabbed 4 points with a fifth place finish in the 800 meter run, while Barnes and Walker snagged a point a piece with 8th place finishes in the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter run.
