More Information
Just in case any spectators at Don Shula Stadium opted for a restroom visit between the 18th and 22nd minute on Tuesday night a glance at the scoreboard would be enough to leave anyone speechless.
The two teams combined for four goals over a four minute span early in the first half. Three of those four goals were netted by the Blue Streaks, resulting in a 3-1 victory in John Carroll's 2008 home opener.
JCU got on the scoreboard first when Jeff Kosek scored off assists by Louis Kastelic and Dave Hickey at the 17:45 mark in the first period. Twenty-five second later Scott McKinney gave John Carroll at two-goal advantage off an assist by Kyle Buxman.
Just over two minutes later Denison's Drew Lash (Ballwin, Mo./Whitfield School) attempted a shot that was blocked by a JCU defender. Before the defense could react to the defelection, the ball found DU midfielder Peter Shorten (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) who wound-up and sent a shot from 18-yards away, past goalkeeper Matt DeMarchi.
Almost before DU could celebrate cutting the John Carroll lead in half, McKinney found the back of the net for the second time, giving his team a two-goal lead that would stand up through the next 67 minutes of play.
DU outshot John Carroll 10-6 out-cornered them 5-0. Kevin Donahue (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich) posted three saves while DeMarchi stopped seven would-be Denison goals.
The Big Red (1-1) will return to the Barclay-Thomsen pitch on Saturday (Sept. 6) at 7 p.m. against Olivet.
