The Big Red men's soccer team rallied for a pair of second half goals that would lead to a 2-2 tie with Otterbein College on Wednesday in Granville.
Otterbein took an early lead when Raymond Lindquist scored off a penalty kick in the 13th minute. The score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Cardinals until Byron Horton sent a shot past a diving Kevin Donahue (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich) 11 minutes into the second half.
Denison would cut into the Otterbein lead in the 66th minute thanks to a penalty kick conversion by Peter Shorten (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy). As the clock was ticking down, Denison and Shorten would strike again as the junior midfielder send a shot from the far corner past Otterbein keeper David Dziedzicki with just 5:37 left in regulation.
The two teams would attempt a combined 12 shots in overtime but none would result in the elusive golden goal. The tie moved Denison's record to 3-3-2 while Otterbein's shifted to 2-3-2.
The Cardinals outshot Denison 27-23 and both goalkeepers posted six saves apiece.
The Big Red will open North Coast Athletic Conference play this Saturday (Sept. 27) when they host Wabash College at 1 p.m.
