Men's Soccer: Shorten receives NCAC Player of the Week honor

Junior midfielder Peter Shorten (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) was named North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week in men's soccer after recording back-to-back multi-goal games in a 2-2 double overtime tie with Otterbein College and a 2-1 victory over Wabash College.
Against Otterbein, Shorten drew a foul in the box and converted a penalty kick into the Big Red's first goal which cut the Cardinal lead to 2-1. In the 85th minute, Shorten found the back of the net again when he drove down the right side of the field and fired a shot into the far corner of the goal.
After falling in an early 1-0 hole to the Little Giants, the junior touched the ball around the challenging goalkeeper and pushed it between the pipes for an empty net score. Shorten once again displayed his late game heroics when he settled a badly cleared ball and sneaked it past the keeper from 15 yards out at the 84:39 mark.
Shorten's multi-goal outings were the first two in his three-year career and helped DU improve to 4-3-2 on the season and 1-0-0 in league play. He is currently second in the conference in shots (3.44 per game), tied for third in goals with five, and seventh in points (1.22 per match). This is the first time the junior midfielder has been named NCAC Player of the Week.
Denison returns to action Saturday (Oct. 4) when they host conference foe Allegheny. Match time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
