Junior Peter Shorten scored his third and fourth goals of the week in the 2-1 victory over Wabash on Saturday.

The Big Red overcame their recent first half offensive woes as junior Peter Shorten (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) recorded his second-consecutive multi-goal game in Denison's 2-1 victory over Wabash College in their North Coast Athletic Conference.

After Little Giant speedster Austin Jennings found the back of the net in the game's fifth minute, Shorten wasted no time with the DU response. Sophomore Drew Lash (Ballwin, Mo./Whitfield School) served a ball that was misplayed by Wabash goalkeeper Devin Moss outside of the 18. Shorten snuck in to tip the ball away from Moss and found himself with no one between him and the goal as he fired in a left-footed shot to tie the game at 1-1 in the sixth minute.

The 14th minute of play signaled the arrival of the physical play and frustration by both sides. Nine total cards were handed out, including a red card for each squad. The Big Red gained a man advantage in the 61st minute, but were unable to capitalize before their own red card evened the field in the 81st minute.

At the 84:39 mark, Shorten broke the tie as he settled an attempted clear and slipped the ball into the lower left corner of the goal, past a diving Moss. The goal marked Shorten's fourth in two games.

Denison outshot the Little Giants 15-8, including an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal. DU junior goalie Kevin Donahue (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich)
made three saves while Moss stopped six shots.

The Big Red improve to 4-3-2 overall and 1-0-0 in conference action while the Little Giants fall to 4-4-2 on the season an 0-2-0 in the NCAC. DU returns to action when they host the Gators of Allegheny College on Saturday (Oct. 4) at 1:00 p.m.
