Men's Soccer: Big Red close out season with double OT win at Wooster

A goal by junior Peter Shorten (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) in the 107th minute lifted the Denison men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over the College of Wooster on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Big Red finished the season 6-8-3 overall and 3-5-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

DU scored first when sophomore Len Mills (Pittsburgh, Pa.Upper St. Clair) redirected a shot by sophomore Ish Ghodbane (Olivette, Mo./Ladue Watkins Horton) into the lower left corner of the goal. Mills' seventh goal of the season came in the 35th minute of play and was the lone goal in the opening half.

The Fighting Scots were able to tie the game at 1-1 in the 59th minute when Karl Buter scored a breakaway goal off a pass from Brenton Allen.

After a scoreless overtime period, Shorten took a pass from sophomore Hubert Beauchemin (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy), dribbled the ball from right to left and fired a shot into the lower right corner of the goal.

The Big Red outshot Wooster 21-12, including a 5-1 advantage in the overtime periods. Junior goalkeeper Kevin Donahue (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich) made four saves for Denison while Fighting Scots goalie Taylor Takacs had six stops. 

Both Mills and Shorten finish the season as co-team leaders in goals scored with seven. Shorten also led the squad with three game-winning goals. Donahue ends the season with a 81 saves, two shutouts and a 1.40 goals against average.
