Men's Soccer: Big Red Outlasts Malone

David Folt's goal in the 22nd minute lifted DU past Malone.

The Denison Big Red scored the contest's lone goal in the 22nd minute of play which resulted in a 1-0 victory over Malone College on Tuesday night at Barclay-Thomsen Field.

Denison's lone goal was scored off a corner kick served up by Peter Shorten (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy). Junior defender David Folt (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) utilized his 6'3" frame by elevating and heading the ball past Malone goalkeeper Mike Porter.

Both teams would have opportunities to score throughout the remainder of the game. Malone's Marcos Batchelor had two open looks at the goal but both were denied by DU's stand-out sophomore keeper Kevin Donahue (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich). Donahue ended the night with four saves, three of which came in the first half.

Malone took 12 shots, with four coming on-goal. Denison attempted 10 shots with four being on-goal. Ryan Linn led Denison with three shots while Shorten and Folt both had two, each.

The Big Red took eight corner kicks to Malone's four. DU committed three offside penalties while Malone committed two.

Denison will travel to Wilmington, Ohio this weekend for the Wilmington Invitational Tournament.Their next home match is Wednesday, Sept. 19 against Capital University.
