Men's Soccer: Folt, Shorten named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District

Big Red men's soccer junior David Folt (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and sophomore Peter Shorten (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) were named to ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District IV Team.Folt was named to the first team while Shorten earned a second team nomination.By being named to the first team Folt advances to the national ballot with hopes of being named an Academic All-American.

Folt is a three year starter at defender for the Big Red. He has been a mainstay on a stingy Big Red defense in his three year career, playing in 53 games, starting 49. Folt has scored four goals and tallied two assists from his defender position. He was awarded for his performances on the field last season being earning first team NCAC honors while also being named 2006 NCAC Defender of the Year.

Shorten has started in all 37 games in his two years at Denison. Over that time, Shorten has scored four goals and handed out five assists while being the team's second leading scorer during the 2007 season that saw the Big Red compile a 9-6-2 record.

Created in 1952 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Teams Program is a premier, nationwide college scholar-athlete awards program.  It recognizes 816 outstanding student-athletes annually in Division I,II,III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.­
