Men's Soccer: Linn's first half hat-trick enough to stop Wooster

Ryan Linn's bicycle kick goal capped off an impressive three-goal performance against Wooster.

Date: October 20, 2007
Location: GRANVILLE

Ryan Linn (Zanesville, Ohio/West Muskingum) scored three goals in the first half to lead Denison to a 3-0 victory over The College of Wooster on Saturday at Barclay-Thomsen Field.  It marked the first career hat-trick for Linn, and catapults him to the top of the Big Red scoring list in 2007 with seven goals.

Denison got things going very early when Brian Combias (Madison, N.J./The Pingry School) hit Linn off a cross into the middle of the box where he sent the ball past Wooster goalkeeper Patryk Tenorio in the third minute.  In the ninth minute the razzle-dazzle continued when Peter Shorten (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve) played a pass off his back heel to Linn who one-timed it into the upper left corner of the net.

At the 27 minute mark Linn would close out the scoring for the day when he scored an unassisted goal off a deflected corner kick.  Linn finished with a team-high four shots and now sits at 19 in career goals scored.

Kevin Donahue (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich) played the first half in goal for Denison and posted one save.  He was relieved by Matt Bren (Kent, Ohio/Roosevelt) who finished off the final 45 minutes of action.  Tenorio played the first half for Wooster and recorded one save while Jordan O'Boyle played the second half and had four saves..

DU outshot Wooster 11-5.  Both teams attempted three corner kicks and Denison committed 10 fouls to Wooster's 6.  The win moves Denison's record to 9-5-1 overall and 3-4 in North Coast Athletic Conference play.  Their next match will be Tuesday (Oct. 23) at Earlham College.
