Men's Swimming & Diving: Denison closes dual season with win over Carnegie Mellon

John Nemeth posted an NCAA qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke helping Denison to a 176-115 win over CMU.
Robert Barry (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's) and John Geissinger (Darien, Conn./Lawrenceville School) each won three events helping Denison to a 176-115 victory over Carnegie Mellon on Senior Day from Gregory Pool in Granville, Ohio. The victory closes out the dual meet season for the Big Red and leads them to the 2009 North Coast Athletic Conference Championships in two weekends.
Barry took first in the 100 and 200 backstroke and teamed with John Nemeth (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic), Chris Bagley (West Bloomfield, Mich./Brother Rice) and Geissinger to win the 200 medley relay. In the 200 backstroke Barry posted a season-best and NCAA qualifying time of 1:52.35.
Nemeth also turned in his best swim of the season in the 100 breststroke with an NCAA provisional qualifying effort of 58.50 seconds. That was a team-best time in that event as well.
Senior David Curtis (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) continued to gear up for his final conference championship with a win in the 200 free. The two-time 200 free national champion touched in 1:41.58 to win the event.
Geissinger's three victories came in the aforementioned 200 medley relay, the 100 freestyle and the 50 freestyle. In the 100 he turned in a time of 45.83 seconds and touched in 20.72 seconds in the 50.
First-year Dan Thurston (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) won the 200 butterfly in 1:57.13 and another rookie, Phil Meyer (River Forest, Ill./Oak Park & River Forest) was the winner in the men's one-meter dive with a score of 231.90.
The 2009 NCAC Championships will begin on Thursday (Feb. 12) and continue through Saturday (Feb. 14) from C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio.
