Men's Swimming & Diving: Big Red in third after first day of Miami Invitational

The Big Red men's swimming and diving team sits in third place after two events at the three-day Miami Invitational.  Denison totaled 123 points and trails first-place Wright State University by 18-points.  Miami sits in second with 132 points.

Denison's defending national champion 800 free relay team placed second with a time of 6:41.91.  The relay team was comprised of veterans David Curtis (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and John Geissinger (Darien, Conn./Lawrenceville School) along with newcomers Mike Barczak (Beverly Hills, Mich./Brother Rice) and Dan Thurston (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron).

In Thursday's other event, the 1650 freestyle, first-year Austin Vierra (Placerville, Calif./Ponderosa) placed seventh with a time of 16:15.67 which was an NCAA provisional qualifying performance.  Casey Browning (Grosse Pointe, Mich./South) followed in 10th place with a time of 16:31.35 and Kevin Jones  (Lewisville, S.C./West Forsyth) took 12th in 16:42.04.

DU will return for Friday morning preliminaries at 9 a.m.  Finals will take place at 6 p.m.
