For the second straight season the Big Red men's swimming and diving team has knocked off Kenyon College in the annual dual meet between the two national powers. Led by eight, first-place performances Denison had just enough to squeeze by the Lords, 123-120 on Saturday at the Kenyon Athletic Center.
Coming off last weekend's NCAA qualifying time of 45.96 in the 100 freestyle, John Geissinger (Darien, Conn./Lawrenceville) returned with a first-place finish in the event in 46.20 seconds. Chris Sellon (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) followed in second place in 49.04 seconds. The victory in the 200 free would go to Curtis in 1:43.34. Andy Catlin (Owego, N.Y./Owego) placed third in the event in 1:46.22. Curtis would go on to tie Geissinger for most victories on the day following his win in the 500 freestyle in 4:44.15.
In the one meter dive Stephen Julka (Madison, Wis./Madison Memorial), Russ Bornschein (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) and Cody Smith (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) took the top-3 spots to earn key points toward the Big Red's cause. Julka posted a score of 283.60 to win the one meter. He also took first in the three-meter with a score of 244.05.
