Men's Swimming & Diving: DU Rolls Past Grove City

The top-ranked Denison men's swimming and diving squad remained unbeaten in dual meets following their 168-121 win over Grove City College in what was Senior Day at Gregory Pool in Granville.
The highlight of the day for the men came in the final event where the 200 free relay squad comprised of John Geissinger (Darien, Conn./Lawrenceville School), Lowell Byers (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greely), Jon Behnke (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) and David Curtis (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) set a new pool record with a time of 1:24.85. Behnke turned in the fastest split, covering his leg in 20.95 seconds.
In the first event of the day Charlie Grodecki (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier), John Nameth (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny), Byers and Geissinger took first in the 200 medley relay in 1:37.79. Freshman Ben Terry (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Twp.) won the 1,000 meters in 9:58.15 and Curtis sprinted his way to a win in the 200 meters in 1:45.38.
Behnke, Grodecki and Charlie Baldwin (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Twp.) held down the top spots in the 100 backstroke with Behnke's time of 54.58 seconds setting the pace. The 100 breastroke went to Nemeth in 1:01.31 seconds and Matt Wright (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) took first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:00.93 seconds.
Geissinger topped last year's national champion in the 50 freestyle, Grove City's Tim Whitbeck, in the 100 free by more than two seconds thanks to his time of 46.91 seconds.
Sophomore Andy Brabson (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) bested three of his teammates to win the 200 breaststroke in 2:15.94. Grodecki won the 100 backstroke to round out the winners for the DU swimmers.
Senior Stephen Julka (Madison, Wis./Memorial) won the one and three meter dives. He totaled 235.70 points in the three meters and finished with 263.20 points in the one-meter board. Teammate Cody Smith (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) was second in the one-meter and third in the three-meter competition.
