Men's Swimming & Diving: Denison Fares Well at Pittsburgh
Lowell Byers placed second in the 50 free and fourth in the 100 fly to lead Denison at Pittsburgh on Saturday.

The Denison men's swimming and diving squad traveled to the University of Pittsburgh on Saturday for a five team meet with Pitt, Duquesne, Clarion and Carnegie Mellon.
In their final warm-up before the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships in two weeks the men more than held their own versus a strong field in the Steel City.
Senior Lowell Byers (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) placed second in the 50 freestyle, touching i 21.64 seconds. He also turned in a fourth place performance in the 100 butterfly in 52.30.
Byers also swam on both relays. In the 200 medley relay he teamed with Jon Behnke (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte), John Nameth (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and John Geissinger (Darien, Conn./Lawrenceville School) to place third in 1:37.21.
He was also a part of the third place 400 free relay team along with Behnke, Geissinger and David Curtis (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer).
One of the brightest spots of the day came from the performances by Denison's three divers. Facing off against a predominately Dvision I and II competition the Big Red delivered. In the one-meter dive Stephen Julka (Madison, Wis./Memorial) placed fourth with a score of 238.00. Freshman Cody Smith (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) had a career afternoon, totaling 220.65 points in the one meter and 226.70 points in the three-meter. Junior Russ Bornschein (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) led Denison's divers in the three-meter competiton with a fifth place finish and a score of 239.30. He logged a score of 215.75 in the one-meter to take sixth.
Other top performances came from Jake Lewing (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and his fourth-place finish in the 200 IM and Geissinger's pair of third place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyles.
