Men's Tennis: Big Red sweep Yeomen

The young blood shined in No. 19 Denison's 9-0 victory over Oberlin College on Monday evening inside the John W. Heisman Field House in Oberlin, Ohio.

Sophomore Nate Hobrath (Strongsville, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) scored a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles over Ben Godlove to capture his third-consecutive win. Rookie Tyler Cempre (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) and sophomore Evan Verbofsky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) took care of business at the second and third flights by scores of 6-3, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1, respectively.

At fourth singles, first-year Matt McErlean (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) blanked James Blankenship 6-0, 6-0 while junior Adam Seeley (West Hartford, Conn./William H. Hall) and freshman Elliot Conti (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington) claimed victories at the fifth and sixth flights.

In doubles action, Cempre and Hobratch teamed up to score an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles. Verbofsky and McErlean shutout Oberlin's Peder Davis and Jonathan Wachtel 8-0. Closing out doubles play were Seeley and Conti who registered an 8-1 decision.

The Big Red improve to 11-3 on the season. Denison returns to the courts Wednesday when they travel to ninth-ranked Kenyon College. Match time in Gambier, Ohio is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
