Men's Tennis: Lofgren and Newman bow out at NCAA Championships

Date: May 16, 2008
Location:

The senior doubles team of Randy Lofgren (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton) and Kevin Newman (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) closed out a brilliant four-year career on the hard courts following a 7-6, 6-4 loss in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Division III Men's Doubles Championship from Bates College.

Lofgren and Newman were making their third appearance in the doubles championship and were attempting to advance to the quarterfinals for the second time in their careers until Mary Washington's fourth-seeded tandem ended their season.

Randy Loden and Kaz Murata took the opening set 7-6 (7) in the tiebreaker and came back in the second set with a 6-4 win to advance to the round of eight.  Lofgren and Newman have won 67 career matches, are four-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference selections, were All-Americans in 2006 and have won 76 percent of their career matches played.
