Women's Basketball: O'Brien, Perrine receive ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District recognition

Denison women's basketball seniors Ellen O'Brien (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and Sarah Perrine (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) were both named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District third team.
O'Brien is a two-time all-North Coast Athletic Conference selection, earning first-team status last year and honorable mention recognition in her sophomore campaign. The Bethesda, Md. native carries a 3.63 GPA as a psychology and sports management double major and is a member of the Denison Student Athlete Advisory Committee (DSAAC).
O'Brien has started every game this season for the Big Red and leads the team with 88 assists and 30 steals. The senior has converted 37-of-89 from the floor (42 percent) is shooting 90 percent from th charity stripe (18-for-20). Nationally, her 3.7 assist turnover ratio ranks fourth best in all of Division III women's basketball. For her career, O'Brien has compiled 431 assists and recorded 161 thefts to date. She is just three helpers shy of setting a new school career record and four steals away from moving into fourth on Denison's all-time career list.
Perrine was named to the all-conference second team last season after sinking 38 three pointers and shooting 83 percent from the foul line. A former NCAC Player of the Week selection (Jan. 11), the Springfield, Ohio native is a biology major and has a 3.88 GPA. She is a member of Denison University Biological Society and Omicron Delta Kappa which is the National Leadership Honor Society.
This season, Perrine has played in every game and is averaging 9.1 ppg. The senior is a team-best 96 percent from the foul line (23-for-24) while her 45 percent from the floor (63-for-140) and 41 percent from behind the arc (23-for-56) rank second on the squad. Her 23 threes this season helped the Denison long-range attack rank ninth on the national level. While at Denison, Perrine has made 110 career three-pointers and is four triples shy of moving into third on DU's all-time list. Additionally, she has converted an impressive 78.6 percent from the charity stripe (151-for-192).
The Big Red (13-6) is currently riding a 10-game winning streak and holds a four-game lead in the NCAC, boasting a perfect 11-0 league record. Denison returns to action Friday when they travel to conference rival Ohio Wesleyan University for a 7:30 p.m. The squad returns home the following night to host Oberlin College. Saturday's tip-off is also scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and can be heard on the Denison Sports Network powered by TEAMLINE.
