Katie St. Clair recorded her first-career double-double in DU's 78-64 victory at Allegheny on Saturday. St. Clair finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds, both game-highs.

For the first time in the 25 year history of the North Coast Athletic Conference, the Denison women's basketball team posted a perfect 16-0 regular season record after a 78-64 victory over Allegheny College on Saturday afternoon at the David V. Wise Center in Meadville, Pa. With the win, DU improved their current winning streak to 15 games, which ties the school record.

The two teams were involved in a tightly contested game in the opening minutes of play. With the score knotted at 6-6, the Gators took their first lead of the contest when Jill Gregory scored at 15:42. However, senior Sarah Perrine (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) drilled a three-pointer on the ensuing possession to recapture the lead for DU. After Allegheny retook the lead with a Shannon Culbreath lay-up, the home squad expanded their lead to as many as five (16-11) with 12:43 left in the period.

Denison answered the outburst with a triple from senior Katie St. Clair (Granger, Ind./St. Joseph's) and a lay-in by senior Ellen O'Brien (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) to even the contest up at 16-all. At that point the Big Red offense went on a 12-2 run to build up a 10-point advantage. After Allegheny trimmed it back down to six (28-22), Denison was able to rebuild a 34-23 lead following a pair of free throws by St. Clair with 3:20 on the clock. The Big Red took a 42-29 lead into the half after a St. Clair trey with three ticks left in the frame. The senior finished the half with 12 points and six rebounds.

Denison shot 52 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes including 50 percent (4-of-8) from behind the arc. Allegheny converted 41 percent from the field in the first but didn't record a field goal from long range.

After scoring a couple quick baskets to open the second stanza, the Gators looked to be right back in the game. However, a 12-3 run by DU gave them an 18-point advantage (54-36) roughly five minutes into the period. With Denison up 68-51 at the 6:36 mark, Allegheny's Hilary Collins sank a pair of three-pointers to trim the gap to 11. After Collins pulled down a defensive board, she found Laura Magnelli for a third-straight trey to make it a 68-60 game with 4:24 left in regulation.

However, a triple by sophomore Shaina Kaiser (Ostrander, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) broke up the nine-point Gator run while a solid performance from the line over the final minute and a half locked up the 14-point victory.

St. Clair and senior Carolyn Simpson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) both recorded double-doubles for the Big Red. St. Clair notched 16 points and 11 rebounds, both game-highs, while Simpson scored 12 and logged 10 boards. Also chipping were O'Brien with 14 tallies, senior Caitlin Graessle (Galloway, Ohio/Bishop Ready) with 12 and Kaiser with 11 points and eight rebounds.

For Allegheny, Stephanie Wolf, Emilie Simone and Gregory all scored 13 tallies while Collins dropped 12 points. Wolf paced the Gators on the glass with eight rebounds while Simone and Gregory each had seven boards.

Denison (18-6) returns to action on Tuesday when they host Oberlin College in the quarterfinals of NCAC Tournament. Tip-off from Livingston Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
