Women's Basketball: Denison still perfect in conference play after win over Earlham

Haley Dahlgard scored 15 points to lead Denison to their 10th straight victory.
The Big Red shot 51 percent from the field and had six players score nine points or more as Denison ran their winning streak to 10 games following a 90-51 victory over Earlham College on Tuesday night from Livingston Gymnasium.
Denison utilized a 24-9 run late in the first half which resulted in a 25-point as the Big Red headed into the locker room. In the second half the Big Red bench kept the pressure on, pushing their lead to as much as 46 points with just under five minutes to play.
Sophomore Haley Dahlgard (Walnut Creek, Calif./Northgate) led all scorers with 15 points off a 7-for-10 shooting performance. Caitlin Graessle (Galloway, Ohio/Bishop Ready) came off the bench to score 12 points, five assists and three steals in 15 minutes. Senior Carolyn Simpson (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) finished with 10 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Early in the first half, a pair of Simpson free throws moved her into fourth place on the Denison all-time scoring list. She passed Leslie Quinn '83 and now has 1,153 career points.
Another Big Red senior chasing a record is guard Ellen O'Brien (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman). She ended the night with nine points and five assists and now needs just two assists to tie Denison's all-time assist record of 433 which is currently held by Bridget Colleran '96.
Earlham shot 37 percent from the field and was led in scoring by Tasha Merrill's 11 points. Tracy Hill added 10 points and six rebounds for the Quakers.
Denison outrebounded Earlham 47-29 and forced their opponents into 21 turnovers. Denison scored 26 points off those turnovers and were outstanding in transition as they outscored Earlham 22-2 in fast break situations.
The Big Red are 13-6 overall and 11-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Earlham drops to 1-18 and 0-11 in conference play. Denison will go for 11 straight on Friday (Feb. 6) when they travel to Delaware, Ohio for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off against Ohio Wesleyan.
