Women's Basketball: Huge first half leads Big Red past Quakers

Caitlin Graessle scored 13 points to lead DU to their 14th straight win.

Thanks to a first half which saw the Big Red outscore the host Earlham Quakers 44-14, Denison remained perfect in 2009 after a 69-46 victory over Earlham in Richmond, Ind.  Denison has now won 14 straight games and needs just one more win on Saturday at Allegheny to post a perfect 16-0 record in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

In the first half DU shot 49 percent and knocked down six, 3-pointers while holding the Quakers to just five field goals out of 29 attempts.  Sarah Perrine (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) led all scorers with nine first half points in just eight minutes.

For the game senior guard Caitlin Graessle (Galloway, Ohio/Bishop Ready) paced DU with 13 points.  Carolyn Simpson (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) added 10 points and nine rebounds.  Joining Simpson in double-figures was Ellen O'Brien (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) with 10.

Earlham was led by Tasha Merrill's 13 points. Nikki Darrett finished with nine points and seven rebounds.

For the game DU shot 41 percent (26-of-64) and were 7-for-23 from 3-point range.  The Big Red controlled the boards 49-29 and forced the Quakers into 18 turnovers.
