Women's Basketball: Denison wins third straight

Sarah Perrine led the way with 15 points and was 6-for-6 from the field in Denison's 28-point win over Hiram on Sunday.

Denison shot 53 percent in the second half and knocked down a season-high 13 3-pointer's resulting in an 81-53 victory over Hiram College on Sunday afternoon from Livingston Gymnasium in Granville, Ohio.

In one of their best shooting performances of the season, seven different Denison players connected on at least one 3-pointer.  Senior Sarah Perrine (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee), who drilled her 100th career trifecta midway through the second half, scored 15 points and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the field.  Perrine was 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and needs just two more 3-pointers to move past Caitlin Krupka and into sixth place on the school's list for all-time 3-point field goals made.  

Perrine was joined as the leading scorer by sophomore Shaina Kaiser (Ostrander, Ohio/Buckeye Valley) who also scored 15 points off a 6-for-8 performance.  Kaiser also added eight rebounds in 23 minutes.  Senior guard Caitlin Graessle (Galloway, Ohio/Bishop Ready) reached doubles figures with 12 points while going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.  The team was led in rebounds by senior Kaite St. Clair (Granger, Ind./St. Joseph's) who finished with nine. 

Another player moving up in the record books for the Big Red was senior guard Ellen O'Brien (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman).  She finished with nine points and six assists and moved past Molly Baumann and into third place on the DU career assist list with 392 helpers.

Hiram was led in scoring by Ashley Drum's 17 points and seven rebounds in 29 minutes off the bench.  Tiffany Shields added 13 points and Alex Dellas finished with 11 for the Terriers.

Denison shot 52 percent from the field and were an impressive 13-of-24 from 3-point range.  DU held a 41-33 edge on the boards and the two teams each committed 17 turnovers.

The victory is the third-straight for the surging Big Red and keeps their record a perfect 4-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference.  Hiram falls to 3-9 overall and 2-3 in league play.  Denison will return to the court on Wednesday (Jan. 14) when they host Wooster at 7:30 p.m.
