Carolyn Simpson's season-high 22 points leads the Big Red to a 19-point win over Hiram College on Saturday. Simpson has 1,143 career points and is just four tallies shy of taking over the fourth spot on DU's all-time scoring list.

Senior Carolyn Simpson (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) dropped a season-high 22 points to help lead the Denison women's basketball team to an 83-64 win over Hiram College on Saturday afternoon at Price Gymnasium in Hiram, Ohio. The victory was the Big Red's ninth straight and kept DU perfect in the North Coast Athletic Conference with a 10-0 record.

Denison led by as many as six roughly seven minutes into the first period, but an 8-2 run by the Terriers knotted the contest at 19-all half way through the tightly contested frame. After the two teams traded baskets to make it a 21-21 game, Hiram went on a mini 7-2 spurt to build up a five-point advantage with 7:46 left in the half. However, DU was able to trim the lead down to one (28-27) after Simpson and Sarah Perrine (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) both converted on a pair of foul shots. Once again down by a point at 32-31, sophomore Lindsay Henry (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) was able to pull down a defensive rebound and hustled down to the other end of the court to convert the traditional three-point-play. Tied 38-38 with just over three minutes remaining in the first, the Big Red went on an 8-0 run to close out the period and take a 46-38 lead into the intermission. The final run of the half was paced by six tallies from sophomore Shaina Kaiser (Ostrander, Ohio/Buckeye Valley).

The story of the second half was a familiar tale for Denison during this current winning streak. The Big Red came out of the locker room with guns blazing as they opened up an 18 points lead (66-48) seven and a half minutes into the period. Simpson took over the opening portion of the frame scoring 11 of the squad's 20 points during the stretch. A Caitlin Graessle (Galloway, Ohio/Bishop Ready) jumper gave Denison their largest lead of the contest at 25 before they walked away with the 19-point win.

In addition to her offense, Simpson grabbed a team-high eight boards. Kaiser finished the day with 14 tallies while Perrine added 12 points and six rebounds. Senior Ellen O'Brien's (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) four assist-performance tied her with Christi Clay for second on the school's all-time list. O'Brien now has 426 career helpers and is just eight shy of setting a new school record.

Jess Cowan led the Terriers with 16 tallies while Ashley Drum chipped in 12 points. Alex Dellas led Hiram on the glass with a game-high nine rebounds.

The Big Red converted 14 Hiram turnovers into 23 tallies and got 32 points from their reserves. Denison also out rebounded the Terriers 44-38.

With the win, DU improves to 12-6 on the season and 10-0 in the NCAC while Hiram falls to 5-13 overall and 3-6 in the league. The Big Red returns to action on Tuesday when they welcome Earlham College to Livingston Gymnasium for a conference clash. Tip-off for the game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
