| Date | February 25, 2009 |
| Location | GRANVILLE |
Following their North Coast Athletic Conference quarterfinal win over Oberlin College on Tuesday night, Denison University will serve as the host institution for this weekend's NCAC Women's Basketball Tournament semifinals and finals on Feb. 27-28.
After posting a perfect 16-0 record in conference play Denison earned the No. 1 seed in this year's tournament. They will face No. 4 seed, Ohio Wesleyan University at 8 p.m. on Friday. In the other semifinal game No. 2 seed, Kenyon College will take on No. 3 Allegheny at 6 p.m.
The winners of each semifinal game will return for Saturday's championship game at 7 p.m. with the winner receiving the conference's automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
Ticket prices for Friday and Saturday's games will be $8 for adults, $5 for faculty/staff with ID and $3 for children and students with ID's. The gymnasium will not be cleared in between games on Friday night so one ticket will allow you to watch both semifinal contests. In addition, the first 150 Denison students with a valid ID will be admitted free of charge each night.
Fans attending the game will be directed to park in the University's parking garage located behind the athletic center. Shuttles to and from the parking garage will run between 5 and 11 p.m. on Friday night and from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night. The parking accommodations are being made to facilitate the track and field meets which will also be taking place at the Mitchell Center on Friday and Saturday.
Denison has captured the last four NCAC Tournament championships and enters this year's final four riding one of the nation's longest winning streaks. DU has rattled off a school-record 16 consecutive victories dating back to Dec. 30. Sophomore Shaina Kaiser leads the team in scoring at 13.7 ppg and is shooting 47 percent from 3-point range. Senior Carolyn Simpson is averaging 11.3 ppg and 8.8 rpg and point guard Ellen O'Brien is second in the nation in assist/turnover ratio at +3.36.
Kenyon College earned the No. 2 seed by posting an 11-5 record in conference play. This is their fifth consecutive trip to the NCAC semifinals under head coach Suzanne Helfant. The Ladies defeated Hiram 64-48 in the quarterfinals thanks to a career-high 23 points from Kathleen Williams.
Allegheny checks in with the No. 3 seed after dispatching Wooster 62-45 on Tuesday night. Jill Gregory leads a balanced Gator scoring attack with 11.3 ppg. Four players average at least 9.3 ppg for Allegheny. The Gators have had plenty of success in the NCAC Tournament when they advance past the semifinal round. In seven tries for the conference championship they have walked away with the trophy five times.
The Gators' opponent on Friday will be No. 4 seeded Ohio Wesleyan University. The Bishops came from behind to top Wittenberg, 67-61 in Delaware, Ohio. Sophomore Tyler Cordell led OWU with 19 points against the Tigers. Pam Quigney leads the Bishops in scoring at 15.9 ppg. Katie Hamilton is the team's top rebounder at 8.4 per game.
Live audio of the NCAC Women's Basketball Tournament will be provided through Teamline. The cost to listen to the semifinals will be $10 (good for both games). The cost for the championship game audio will also be $10. Revenue from ticket sales and internet broadcasts go directly to the North Coast Athletic Conference to help offset the costs of operating the various championships held throughout the academic year.
