Katie St. Clair (Granger, Ind./St. Joseph's) scored a career-high 17 points and the Denison defense clamped down on Ohio Wesleyan, holding the Bishops to a season-low 41 points which resulted in a 61-41 victory by the Denison Big Red on "Think Pink Night" which was organized by the women's basketball program to promote and raise money for breast cancer research.

Both Ohio Wesleyan and Denison entered the night wit identical 8-3 records in the North Coast Athletic Conference.  DU held the tie-breaker edge following their 68-63 victory in Delaware on Jan. 9.  The Battling Bishops also entered the game as one of the hottest teams in the NCAC, winners of five of their last six and coming off a 91 point performance against The College of Wooster on Tuesday (Feb. 5).

In that win over Wooster, OWU shot 53 percent from the field and knocked down 12 3-pointers while crusing to the 34-point victory.  Luckily for the Big Red their hot shooting did not carry over to Friday night's contest at Livingston Gymnasium.  The Bishops limped out of the gate, shooting 16 percent in the first half to trail 28-17 after the first 20 minutes of play.

The second half was more of the same as Denison continued to control the boards while putting pressure on the Bishops' outside shooters.  Ohio Wesleyan finished the night just 1-for-19 from beyond the arc while Denison attempted just nine 3-pointers, connecting on four of those attempts.

St. Clair was the sharpshooter for the red and while on Friday.  The benificiary of a number of Denison's 18 assists, St. Clair went 7-for-9 from the field and tallied 17 points while adding six rebounds.

Three other players finished in double figures for Denison, led by Sarah Perrine (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) and Haley Dahlgard's (Walnut Creek, Calif./Northgate) 11 point efforts.  Junior Carolyn Simpson (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) netted her sixth double-double of the season with her 10 point, 12 rebound night.  Junior Ellen O'Brien (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) once again was flirting with a triple-double, finishing with eight points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

Denison won the battle of the boards 45-36 and shot 49 percent from the field.  They were 9-for-11 from the charity stripe and were able to overcome their 25 turnovers thanks to OWU's inability to capitalize at the other end.

Denison will suit up again tomorrow and make the road trip to Oberlin, Ohio for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off with the Yeowomen.

Notes:

Prior to the game the Big Red warmed up in pink t-shirts with their name and number imprinted on the back.  The first 100 students who arrived at the game were issued free "Think Pink" t-shirts. All of the shirts were issued 30 minutes before tip-off and donations were requested at the front gate with 100 percent of the proceeds going to benefit breast cancer research.  A link to a pre-game photo gallery is posted at the top of the page.
