Carolyn Simpson scored 18 points to go along with 11 rebounds and 7 blocks in Denison's win over Hiram.

Leading by only four points at the half the Big Red returned to the court with a renewed defensive intensity and ended up holding Hiram to just 15 points in the second half, en route to a 62-40 victory on Saturday at Livingston Gymnasium.

Hiram rebounded from an early 11-point lead by Denison, eventually cutting the DU lead to three after a 3-point basket by Terrier guard Pamela Spencer.

Early in the second half Hiram continued to keep things interesting, cutting the Denison lead to just one following a three-point-play by Jess Cowan with 11:49 left.

From that point Denison would proceed to go on a 25-4 run to close out the game and pick up their seventh victory in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

The DU defense held Hiram to a 7-for-31 shooting performance in the second half.  The Terriers shot just 26 percent for the game and hit 4-of-15 shots from 3-point range.

Denison was led once again by junior post Carolyn Simpson (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) who flirted with a triple-double, totaling 18 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high seven blocked shots.  Simpson made life difficult for the group of Hiram low-post players which featured five players that were at least 5'11".

Also reaching double-digits for Denison was Ellen O'Brien (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) who ended with 10 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals.  Sarah Perrine (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) knocked down five shots to finish with 10 points and Katie St. Clair (Granger, Ind./St. Joseph's) turned in a solid performance, scoring seven points while grabbing eight boards.

Denison shot 40 percent from the field (25-for-62) and outrebounded their opponents 48-38.

The Big Red improves to 11-8 overall and will travel to Richmond, Ind. on Tuesday (Feb. 5) for a 7:30 p.m. contest with Earlham College.  Their next home game is next Friday (Feb. 8) at 7:30 p.m.
