Women's Basketball: Turnovers costly in loss to Allegheny

Stephanie Wolf scored 17 points and Brittany Bell added 16 points as Allegheny College earned a 67-59 upset win over Denison on Saturday at Livingston Gymnasium.
The Gators forced the Big Red into 22 turnovers and despite committing 18 miscues of their own, they managed to outscore DU 25-9 off those turnovers which would result in the eight-point win. With the loss Denison drops to the #4 seed in next week's North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament where they will face this same Allegheny College team on Tuesday (Feb. 26) at a time that is to be determined.
Allegheny held a 32-27 lead at halftime and pushed that lead to 10 points three minutes into the second half. Denison would go on an 11-2 run over the next six minutes to cut the Gators' lead to one at 41-40. The turning point in the game came with 5:08 left when Wolf nailed a step-back jumper to cap off an 8-0 Allegheny run that would push their lead out to 12 points and put the game on ice.
Denison was led by Carolyn Simpson (Dublin, Ohio/Scioto) and Sarah Perrine (Springfield, Ohio/Shawnee) who each finished with 13 points. Simpson led the team with seven rebounds and also added three blocks and two assists. Perrine fnished 5-for-9 from the field and chipped in four rebounds and three assists.
Ellen O'Brien (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) scored 12 points, all in the second half and senior Anna Mayo (Potomac, Md./Walt Whitman) added six points on her senior day.
Denison shot 37 percent from the field and was 5-for-19 from 3-point range while Allegheny hit on 39 percent of their action shots and was 7-for-16 from beyond the arc. Denison did out rebound the Gators 39-36.
