Ashley Bland enters her fifth year at Denison University with the women's basketball program and her fourth season as the head women's golf coach.
Bland, the former head women's basketball coach at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. from 2001 through 2004, guided the Saints to a pair of second place finishes in the Florida Sun Conference. In 2004, Bland was named the Southeast Independent Region Coach of the Year. While at Flagler, Bland also served as the Director of Student Services.
The Big Red women's basketball team has won three NCAC tournament championships and made three NCAA tournament appearances during her four years in Granville. Denison has compiled an impressive 84-30 record and a 53-11 conference mark the last four seasons.
The women's golf program continues to grow under Bland's direction. The squad closed out it's third season as a varsity team and continues to grow and compete as a young sport.
A 1998 and 2000 graduate of Kent State University, Bland earned her undergraduate degree in Physical Education prior to earning a masters in Sport and Recreation Management. She was a four-year starter on the hardwood at Kent State and is 17th on the career list with 1,070 points. She is also ninth in school history in three-pointers made (97), attempted (291, tied-9th) and percentage (.333, tied-9th). She was the team captain as a senior when the Flashes won the Mid-American Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. She was also a member of the 1995-96 squad that advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
A native of Zanesville, Ohio, Bland played her high school basketball at Bishop Rosecrans High School. She was a two-time Division IV Co-Player of the Year, a two-time Street & Smith High School All-American and a first-team All-Ohio selection as a junior and a senior. She is the school’s all-time leading scorer and was part of Rosecrans’ 1992 Ohio state championship squad.
